The model inter-comparison of cloud chamber simulation will be one of the five case studies for the 11th International Cloud Modeling Workshop (ICMW) in 2024.
The case is focused on the aerosol-ice-cloud interactions in mixed-phase conditions. The observational data is provided by Pi Cloud Chamber, a turbulent, multiphase reaction chamber developed at Michigan Technological University. Pi Chamber is capable of generating and sustaining cloud formation in simulated tropospheric conditions for minutes to days. Individuals/groups who are interested in cloud modeling using DNS, LES, and other numerical/theoretical tools are welcome to participate in the model comparison project. We envision that this case will serve as the initiative of the continuous effort to leverage laboratory measurements to verify and improve cloud modeling of mixed-phase processes.
